Lio Rush is not ruling out a return to WWE.

The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion was released back in 2020 as a part of the massive COVID-19 budget cuts, what many in the industry referred to as “Black Wednesday.” He has since worked stints for AEW, NJPW, MLW, GCW, and indies all around the world.

Rush recently spoke on this topic during an interview with Chris Van Vilet, where he explained that ultimately it would be his decision if he ever wanted to return to WWE, and says it’s not entirely out of the question since it would only help build his legacy. Highlights from the interview can be found below.

Thinks he could potentially end up in WWE again:

I think that it potentially could. I think it potentially could lead me back to WWE. I think at a certain point, it would ultimately be up to me if I wanted to go that route again or not. I realize that nothing is forever, so being presented with certain opportunities, I wanna make the most out of them.

Says part of his decision would be based the type of legacy he hopes to leave for his kids:

I wanna do my absolute best to make sure that there’s no wasted time or wasted movement or effort. Every little thing that I do needs to be a building block to a bigger legacy or whatever the case may be to continue to do the things that I want and to create opportunities for my kids so they can do whatever they truly want. So if spending another three, five, ten years in WWE to build something bigger than me, I’ll take that.

How Drew McIntyre proved that leaving WWE and coming back can boost your credibility as a star:

I feel like me going through that process and knowing how that system is like and how things are ran… I think already having that experience and that showing on television that worked could work out in my favor. I see it all the time. I think a great example of that, and obviously he’s not the only one, but [someone] I’ve seen [do it] in real time is Drew McIntyre. I wrestled him on the indies and if I’m not mistaken, I think I was his very last or second to last match before he ended up going back.

Elsewhere in the interview, Rush spoke about his relationship with AEW President Tony Khan. You can read about that here.
