Opening Segment: nXt Tag Team Championship Contract Signing

nXt General Manager William Regal is in the ring as the show opens. He’s officiating the contract signing for the Tag Title match at TakeOver: Toronto between Street Profits, the champions, and the Undisputed Era.

Both teams are introduced and arrive to the ring with their respective theme songs. Fans are loving Ford & Dawkins. They ask Regal to pause before he introduces the next team. Dawkins and Ford with a New Age Outlaws-esque spoof “O’Reilly Auto Parts and Lawrence Fishbourne Jr”. They even swagger to the Undisputed Era theme music when it comes on, cause how could you not. It’s one of the best theme songs and entrances in wrestling today.

Bobby Fish takes the mic as the fans chant, “Auto Parts”. O’Reilly and Fish recognized the humour but chose not to laugh. They tell Dawkins and Ford that they’re not on their level. For the first time in their careers, their autographs are in demand, so let’s get signing. Fish says they are better bell to bell and funnier, too.

O’Reilly goes on to tell a joke…Street Profits are the nXt Tag Team Championships. Ford & Dawkins stomp around and pretend to laugh. Fish says it’s a good punch line.

Ford says you guys have shocked the system since entering nXt, you’re on every single episode and TakeOver since you got here, you’ve possibly beaten every tag team in nXt history: Dawkins says, AOP, SAnitY, Burch & Lorcan, Moustache Mountain…they might be the best tag team in nXt ever.

Ford gets hyped up and speaks to the crowd feeling them and being on their side. What makes you think losing is an option? All they can do is win, win, win, win, win!

Everyone signs the contracts and GM Regal makes it official for TakeOver: Toronto.

Second Segment: This Is My Division- nXt Women’s Championship Promo

A promo package, featuring a voiceover, is shown for Mia Yim to help hype her nXt Women’s Championship match against the champion, Shayna Baszler. Baszler’s remarks from a few weeks ago are shown where she recognizes the great story, but says Yim will tap, tap, tap.

Highlights of Baszler’s dominance are shown. Footage of Yim attacking Duke & Shafir is shown. Great promo.

Third Segment: Joaquin Wilde vs. Shane Thorne

Highlights include:

Quick rollup attempt by Wilde goes nowhere but it gives Thorne a moment to consider his opposition. Wilde’s jawing at Thorne during this one. Phoenix says he’s wrestled in Mexico and Europe, along with the US. Wristlock brings Thorne down. Thorne tumbles his way back to his feet, maintaining the wristlock.

They reset, Thorne sitting on the low turnbuckle in the far corner. Arm drag and wristlock by Wilde. Whip to the corner and a back elbow from Wilde.

Wilde with a 2 count shortly thereafter, and he’s showing off his high-flying ability. Thorne reverses a spinaround guillotine attempt with a brainbuster. No cover attempted. Instead, Thorne jaws at Wilde.

Euro uppercuts for a 2 count for Thorne. Wilde runs at Thorne. He’s flipped up to the apron. Thorne catches him on the return and the two fall to the mat. Wilde with a hard chop to the chest. Following the Irish whip on the diagonal, Wilde nails Thorne with a powerbomb! 1-2- kickout.

Wilde with the front roll and a guillotine, but again Thorne catches Wilde in mid-air, preventing the move. Euro uppercut from Thorne but a double boot to the face of Thorne from the mat by Wilde! Thorne’s on the outside, and Wilde topes through both ropes. After this, a somersault tope by Wilde on Thorne and he’s pumped!

Thorne barely breaks the 10 count and then falls to the outside again. Thorne feigns injury and begins recklessly slamming Wilde on the steps and the ramp. Wilde goes face-first into the apron before Thorne rolls him in. Running knee strike! It’s over.

Winner: Shane Thorne via pinfall

1 cool point for Thorne who backs up his words from the nXt commentary booth last month. He connected with some solid striking, seeming to counter Wilde’s offensive attempts at all the right times.

1 cool point for Wilde though. Great energy from him and some pretty slick high-flying. He was a good choice to get some TV time coming out of that Breakout Tournament. Did decently enough in Impact, too.

A full promo covering the friendship and fall of Io Shirai and Candice LeRae is shown as the two women prepare for their match at TakeOver: Toronto this Saturday.

A promo for WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race is shown, reflecting on his incredible and championship-decorated career, following his death last week. It included highlights of his storied career, amidst words from some of the greats in the business.

Fourth Segment: Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain

During Riddle’s entrance, Dain attacks him from behind. Riddle is slammed hard into the steel ring steps. nXt referees come to Riddle’s aid as Dain walks away. Guess there won’t be a match.

Winner: NO MATCH

A highlight package reviewing the wrestlers and their match results from the nXt Breakout Tournament is shown. A short preview of the tournament finals between Jordan Myles and Cameron Grimes is shown.

Last week, Forgotten Sons teamed up on Tyler Breeze but Breeze got some help from his tag partner, Fandango. It was a joyous reunion at Full Sail and Cathy Kelley caught up with them immediately following their reunion last week.

Breeze stops Kelley from gushing about the comeback. He asks Fandango where he’s been. Fandango says he was in too deep. He was so busy policing everyone else that he forgot they should police themselves. He says their fashion sense is getting wack….getting bad.

Fandango says they need a makeover: Breezango reimagined. They’ll fight Forgotten Sons next week.

nXt Championship Promo: Adam Cole (c) vs. Johnny Gargano

The 2 out of 3 falls match between Cole and Gargano promo finishes the show. It features some new footage and interview time with both men. GM Regal gives no hints as to what that final fall stipulation will be.

We see Johnny Gargano walking around the WWE Performance Centre, giving advice to wrestlers working there. Jason Albert talks up Gargano’s coaching ability. Gargano wants to leave his mark around this place. nXt is what matters for him.

Cole talks about the BayBay Championship Celebration Tour. He says he’s never felt more like a champion than now. It shows him successfully defending the nXt Championship at house shows in the Eastern USA.

Seth Rollins and Johnny Gargano are shown discussing this weekend’s big matches. Rollins says the 2 of 3 falls match leaves room for error, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a good thing.

Gargano also talks to Finn Balor about his nXt run. Balor remarks on how Gargano has grown and evolved from midcard to nXt Champion, main eventing TakeOvers.
WWE and nXt wrestlers and production staff are asked about who will win the match. The last word is with Gargano who says, this Saturday, he’s taking Adam Cole to hell.

Pretty stoked for this weekend’s TakeOver. It’ll be my first time attending live. Even the matches for next week’s nXt are going to be a real treat to watch, including the finals of the Breakout Tournament.

Nice to see two women’s matches on the card. Been a long time since we’ve seen that (Brooklyn II, to be exact). All titles will be defended and the Toronto crowd will be hyped for some nXt. Cole/Gargano III could be the best in the series, if the stipulations allow. Also, the tag match is going to be very entertaining, and, hopefully, it will start the show and get everybody feeling great about the night ahead.
