Tonight’s show is prefaced with an in memoriam for Pedro Morales, who passed away today, at 76 years old.
Opening Segment: Dominik Dijakovic vs. Shane Thorne
Highlights include:
Thorne’s pesky pace to start out the match, forcing Dijakovic to the defense with sharp kicks and strikes.
Thorne switches to a submission strategy, bending back the left arm of Dijakovic and pulling on his left ear. Arm twists and a wristlock are broken up by Dijakovic with heavy slaps to the chest of Thorne. Finally, a clothesline turns the tide.
Throw suplex and Dijakovic calls for a choke slam. Thorne reverses it, attacks the left arm, beauty Euro uppercut. Side suplex. High angle, adds McGuinness.
Thorne goes up to the top rope, but that was a poor choice. Dijakovic cuts him off there and ascends to the second rope. The two fight back and forth for position. Dijakovic backflips off the turnbuckle. High dropkick! Corkscrew plancha from the top rope to the floor, nailing Thorne! WOW! Crowd is loving that.
“Feast your eyes!” he cries. Dijakovic nails Thorne between the eyes with that strong knee of his.
Winner: Dominik Dijakovic via pinfall in 5 minutes
1 cool point for Dijakovic, solely on the premise of that dropkick/corkscrew plancha combo. That was tremendously risky, but also impressive for a man of his size.
1 cool point for Thorne because he was such a capable challenger to Dijakovic, using that focussed strategy, attacking the left arm. Made for a much more enjoyable match than expected.
The Undisputed Era shares one of their trademark, theme music in the background, promos. They maintain that they are the best in nXt. O’Reilly and Fish say they will take what’s theirs, always have and always will. Sounds like Fish and O’Reilly are teaming together again. Roderick Strong says that gives him an opportunity to go for singles gold.
Cole reminds us that the Era will have all the gold in 2019. Cole calls Ricochet a flash in the pan and says we will show the world that this is the year of the undisputed.
Last week’s 6-women tag match is shown in highlight form. nXt cameras caught up with Io Shirai and Kairi Sane following the match. Shirai says she showed she can beat Shayna. She’s coming for the nXt Women’s Championship.
Sane smiles and says they are both coming to…
Bianca Belair interrupts and says she is the one who had Baszler beat in the ring, moments ago, and at Takeover: Phoenix. So they better take a seat because she is undefeated.
Second Segment: Humberto Carillo & Stacey Ervin Jr. vs. Street Profits
Before this match can start, Kassius Ohno walks out to the stage with a mic. He says he had to come out here and tell the Full Sail crowd that they make him sick. Ohno despises them and their sounds and chants. Ohno tells them he’s out of here. He’s going somewhere where he can show he’s the best to ever do it.
Keith Lee walks up behind Ohno and knocks him out with a rolling elbow. He very slowly grabs the mic from Ohno’s hand. He says, “Oh no. Oh my God”. Lee tells Ohno not to let the door hit him on the ass on the way out.
He pardons everyone for the interruption.
Dawkins & Ford tentatively walk out to the stage, looking at what happened. Lee signals he’s good with them and they proceed to be their generally entertaining selves down the ramp, mocking Ohno being knocked out. They dance in the ring as the fans cheer.
Match Highlights
Carillo and Ford to start this one out. Quick pace to start out. Neither man lands a strike in the first minute. They take turns evading one another on the run and with dropkicks in the air.
After a handshake, Ford kicks Carillo in the mid-section and brings him over to Dawkins. Double team and a quick tag brings Ford back in. Whip to the turnbuckle. Carillo shows off his tumbling to avoid Ford with a handspring tuck backflip. He turns that into a combo of arm drags and an armlock.
Tag to Dawkins. Carillo sends Ford out under the ropes. Dawkins shoulder tackles Carillo to the mat. Carillo’s response is a kick to the head. Ervin Jr is tagged in for a double team dropkick. Standing shooting star press for a quick cover.
Nasty spear on Ervin Jr. They bring him to the corner and stomp him down. Ford pins him for a 2 count.
Sharp kicks to the mid-section by Ford. Commentators are talking up the intensity of the Street Profits, their aggression quota rising.
An absolutely nasty back suplex by Ford on Ervin Jr. Not sure how he even kicked out of that cover. He throws himself to Carillo for the tag.
Carillo equalizes things with a beatdown of Dawkins, including a handspring back elbow to the face. Up to the top rope, missile dropkick that gets some major height. Standing moonsault and a 2 count on Dawkins.
Here comes Ervin Jr with a beauty tsunami-sault. He got high on that jump. Dawkins lays into Carillo with a hard slap. He lifts Ervin Jr, fighting with him into the electric chair position and almost loses him to a triangle submission. Dawkins gets him up and Ford flies from the top rope with a super blockbuster. 1-2-3.
Winner: Street Profits via pinfall in 6 minutes
Ford and Dawkins get mics after the match and announce that they want a piece of the gold-raiding action. Crowd chants “you deserve it”. Their tenure has been a rollercoaster and they are having a blast, but make no mistake about it, they are ready to go to war.
So, War Raiders, if war is what you want…
Suddenly, the music of Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel hits.
“Nein, nein, nein, nein,” says Barthel. Opportunities are sacred and no one deserves an opportunity at the War raiders more than them. They tell the Street Profits to stand aside.
Now it’s Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch’s music, and they waste no time stomping down to the ring. We’ve got three teams arguing until another theme song stops them:
It’s the new nXt Tag Team Champions, War Raiders. They stand on the stage with their titles. Rowe says there’s a lot of talking and no fighting. Hanson says they’re right here. Make a move.
They walk down the ramp until the Undisputed Era, minus Cole, beat down on the champs from behind. Hanson and Rowe are rolled into the ring and the brawl begins. It ends swiftly with all the teams getting cleared out by War Raiders. Lorcan gets tossed out on to his peers by Rowe, as the Undisputed Era looks on from the stage.
1 cool point for Street Profits who get talked up for this new level of intensity, which was clearly visible all match. This is what they need to do to be taken seriously because they have the entertainment side of things figured out.
1 cool point for Carillo & Ervin Jr. These new tag teams are making a fast impression on the Full Sail faithful, showing off their speed, agility, innovative moveset and risk-taking. That’s the combination you need in the ring, these days, to get noticed. Tag division, as Ranallo said, is heating up. Would be great to see a tournament start.
A promo package featuring Johnny Gargano, and highlights from his 2018 year, is shown. The only one who knows what’s best for Gargano is him. He’s gonna show the nXt locker room just how dangerous he can be. Next week, he will fight Velveteen Dream, defending the nXt North American Championship.
Third Segment: Taynara Conti vs. Aliyah
Aliyah’s ring attire and presentation has changed here. She’s wearing black and yellow now, looking to show a much more aggressive side than 2018.
Conti with a bridge pin for a 2 count. Flying armbar by Conti but Aliyah’s able to squirm to the bottom rope for a rope break with her foot. Aliyah pulls Conti’s hair, slamming her to the mat for a 2 count.
Meanwhile, “The Vision”, Vanessa Borne has sauntered down to ringside to watch this match. Vicious kicks by Aliyah to Conti’s back. Another quick count.
Conti with a takedown and a bridge pin for a 1 count. Rollup and another 1 count. Aliyah’s tripped into the bottom turnbuckle. Conti with arm takedowns, focussing on the right arm of Aliyah.
Draping armbar inside the ropes by Conti on Aliyah. She returns to the top rope but Borne pulls on the leg to distract Conti. Aliyah throws her from the turnbuckle and traps Conti in “Total Aliyah-lation”.
Winner: Aliyah via submission in 4 minutes
Post-match, Borne enters to hold up Aliyah’s arm and, suddenly, Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler storms down to the ring. Aliyah and Borne clear out and jaw at the champ. They get attacked by Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir.
Duke & Shafir beat up on Borne, Aliyah and Conti in the middle of the ring. Baszler with a sidewinder slam on Conti.
Baszler says this is the new reality. Do not get in their way. Do not piss them off. The three of them jet from ringside.
1 cool point for Aliyah for a much more fluid in-ring presence than she’s exhibited in past matches. 1 cool point for the post-match beatdown. It was unexpected, but good of Baszler to show face after last week’s loss. She’s not going to allow that to happen again.
A video package for Velveteen Dream is shown, featuring recent highlights from the Worlds Collide Tournament and his intention to challenge Gargano for the nXt North American Championship.
Main Event: Ricochet vs. Adam Cole
Highlights include:
Ricochet’s handstand head scissors takedown, combined with a dropkick to send Cole flying out of the ring. The high-flying prowess of Ricochet impresses Full Sail, as he hits Cole with a plancha.
All Ricochet until Cole catches Ricochet wrapped up in the turnbuckle by the left leg.
Cole begins to focus on that left leg, wringing it agains the ring post. Dragon screw leg whip. Cole keeps kicking that leg and hurting the knee.
Ricochet tenaciously tries to fight back, but when he attempts to run full-speed at Cole, his leg buckles. Still, he avoids Cole’s attack and clotheslines him to the mat.
Tiger Feint Kick by Ricochet. He gets up to the top rope and flies with a diving uppercut. Standing moonsault! 1-2- Cole kicks out. Ricochet grits his teeth and slaps that knee, fighting through the pain. Adrenaline is going full blast here.
Cole with a front kick to the knee of Ricochet, cutting his legs out from under him. Cole lifts Ricochet up to the top turnbuckle. Enziguri to the head! Cole with a fireman’s carry into a ushigoroshi! 1-2- kickout.
Northern lights suplex by Ricochet. He rolls and tries to do it again but his knee buckles. Cole seizes the moment and delivers a nasty ushigoroshi, his knee landing high on the back of Ricochet’s neck. Can’t get the win though.
Cole exposes his right knee, misses the Last Shot, and a rollup by Ricochet. 1-2- kickout. Reverse RANA! Wow. That’s got to have hurt Cole in the back of his head.
Ricochet struggles to the ring ropes. He falls on the apron, adjusts, springs off of one leg for a senton on to Cole’s legs. No pinfall yet.
The two go back and forth with right hands, striking each other’s heads. Massive uppercuts and kicks. Ricochet misses a rainbow kick and gets superkicked in the mouth. 1-2- NO! Cole can’t pin Ricochet. “NXT” chants from the fans.
Ricochet will not give up, even as he’s sat on the top turnbuckle by Cole. Ricochet slides underneath Cole’s legs. He hops up to the second rope but Cole knocks him to the apron. Ricochet with a beauty Frankensteiner. Axe kick. Northern Lights suplex, rolls over into another…and now…it’s…the VERTIGO! Amazing triumph by Ricochet. He really gutted out that victory.
Winner: Ricochet via pinfall in 15 minutes
Immediately, the rest of the Undisputed Era charge the ring to beat up on Ricochet. Aleister Black runs down and he gets superkicked by Cole. Strong follows that up with an End of Heartache backbreaker. So much for that run-in.
2 cool points for both Cole and Ricochet. Tremendous performance by Ricochet who worked most of that match with a bum leg, even going so far as to hit a springboard senton off one leg. That’s unordinary and yet, so fitting for the one and only. Amazing finishing combo to get a clean win over Cole.
Cole’s kicks were as sharp as ever and he is so consistently good in the ring. Never an issue with match pace or workrate with him. Had a number of near-falls this match, playing the perfect foil to Ricochet.
Hard to say where this is going, but I’d like to see a heel vs. heel match: Cole vs. Ciampa. Maybe it’s just a TV match though. That’d set up an opportunity for Ricochet to challenge Ciampa for the title perhaps? Black seems like the odd man out at this point.
