Ring of Honor TV 6/22/23

From the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman, & Nigel McGuinness on commentary.

Match #1. Lucha Bros, El Hijo del Vikingo, & Komander vs. Butcher, Blade, Kip Sabian, & Serpentico

Serpentico and Vikingo trade escapes but Vikingo gets monkey flipped into the corner. Vikingo looks for a Side Effect but Serpentico counters with a stiff powerbomb. Both men tag as Komander squares off with Butcher. Butcher sends Komander to the floor as Blade throws him into the guard rail and Sabian hits an Arabian Press to the floor. Lariat back inside the ring by Butcher gets two. Blade is now with a running back elbow and Sabian follows with an imploding cannonball in the corner. Fisherman’s suplex by Sabian gets two. Quick tags now as Komander is isolated in the far corner. Handspring tornado DDT by Komander as Penta gets the tag. Slindblade to Blade. To Sabian. DDT to Blade and a superkick to Sabian. Fenix in now with a double jump spin kick to Butcher and its a four way superkick by the Lucha Squad. Fear Factor attempt but the bad guys attack from the outside and Butcher and Blade Drag the Lake on Penta. Double stomp off the top by Sabian gets a two count. All eight men are in the ring and it’s another four-way super kick party. Now we’re row, row, rowing our boats here. Penta with a Destroyer to Serpentico in the middle of the rowing circle. Vikingo with a twisting moonsault off the ring post. Back in the ring and the Fear Factor ends this one for Serpentico.

Winners: Lucha Bros, El Hijo del Vikingo, & Komander

Rating: **1/4. Not much more than a squash, but the lucha squad are always fun to watch.

Match #2. Gringo Loco vs. Willie Mack

Mack runs into a boot and both men trade leapfrogs. Mack cartwheels out of a head scissors and Loco does the same. Mirror images here as both men step back and reset. Huge DDT by Mack sends Loco back to a corner. Charging pump kick by Mack and an imploding cannonball in the corner. Two count. Big Samoan drop by Mack before a kip up and a standing moonsault that gets two. Loco gets set up on the top turnbuckle as Mack tries to follow but Loco shoves him off and hits a springboard moonsault. Mack rolls to the outside and a flipping senton by Loco takes him out. Back in the ring and Loco misses a Spiral Tap. Sky High by Mack gets two. Quick strikes by Loco but Mack follows with a rolling elbow. Enziguiri by Loco but a Shining Wizard lands and both men are down. Mack goes up now and Loco follows. Both guys are on the top but it’s a Spanish Fly by Loco and that’ll do it.

Winner: Gringo Loco

Rating: **3/4. All of the stuff you’d expect from these two, although a bit short.

Match #3. Trish Adora vs. Allysin Kay

Test of strength to start. Adora with a standing kimura but Kay drops her throat-first on the top rope. Running avalanche in the corner and some mounted punches by Kay. Chops in the corner by Kay but Adora ducks underneath and return the favor. Spinning neck breaker by Kay gets two. Kay gets in the face of Adora but Adora hits a German suplex from the ground! Arm ringer sends Kay to the mat. Adora hammerlocks the arm and sends Kay shoulder-first into the turnbuckle. Snap suplex with a bridge by Adora gets a two count. Adora calls for the lariat but Kay ducks under and delivers a German suplex and a pump kick for a near fall. Kay can’t get the piledriver and the Lariat Tubman connects out of nowhere!

Winner: Trish Adora

Rating: **. Kay has a lot to bring to the table but I don’t know if Ring of Honor has harnessed that. Adora is well on her way to being a big player in the future.

Match #4. Kyle Fletcher vs. Silas Young

Shoulder block by Fletcher and a running leg lariat sends Young to the floor. Plancha to the floor by Fletcher. Back in the ring and Silas catches a charging Fletcher with a stun gun. Young puts the boots to Fletcher in the corner and looks for a vertical suplex but gets countered by a Fletcher suplex instead. Flying forearms by Fletcher and a back suplex. Two count. Running enziguiri in the corner by Fletcher. Two count. Fletcher charges and Young side steps him, sending him to the apron and the double jump lariat by Young connect. Back breaker and suplex combo by Young. Two count. Peeweegee Plunge by Young misses and he eats a big superkick. Hammerlock driver by Fletcher and this one is over.

Winner: Kyle Fletcher

Rating: **1/2. Nice little match here, as Kyle Fletcher definitely has the rocket strapped to him. Young is a grizzled veteran and can get you more than a decent match.

Match #5. The Embassy vs. Luke Curtis, Trenton Storm, & AJZ

Toa runs over AJZ to start. Huge shoulders in the corner and a back body drop. Toa now fights everyone because he can. Sunset flip by AJZ and a DDT, but Toa gets right up. Belly-to-belly by Toa gets two. Toa now holds AJZ in front of his corner and let’s him tag Storm. Cage comes in now. Clothesline by Storm but he gets run over anyway. Storm tries a headscissors but gets thrown on his face. German suplex by Cage and here’s Kaun. Curtis is now with some impressive elbows but quick offense but gets stungunned over the top rope. Kaun runs him over with a body block on the outside. Outside-in senton by Kaun. Pop-up powerbomb to AJZ by Cage. Sidewalk slam on the top turnbuckle by Kaun. Triple Drillclaw/Pedigree/Rikishi Driver by The Embassy finishes it.

Winners: The Embassy

Rating: *. Yep.

Match #6. Dalton Castle w/ The Boys vs. Josh Woods w/ Smart Mark Sterling & Tony Nese

Wrestling exchanges to start as Woods grabs a front face lock but Castle gets to the ropes. Woods pulls Castle face-first into the rope from the apron. Ankle pick by Castle and a short-arm clothesline and a low DDT. Woods tries to go up top but Castle sweeps the leg and connects with a huge running knee on the apron that sends Woods crashing to the floor from the top rope. Nese and Sterling provide the distraction as Woods attacks from behind. Back suplex into a back breaker by Woods, followed by a German suplex. Two count. Both men exchanging chops now with Castle coming out on top. Flying clothesline by Castle and a duck under leading to a t-bone suplex. Twisting back suplex by Castle. Castle misses a running elbow in the corner but catches Woods charging with a back elbow and delivers a German suplex with a bridge for two. BangARang attempt by Castle but Woods reverses into a gutwrench but Castle lands on his feet. Piledriver by Woods but Castle has the BangARang ready, no! Sterling grabs Woods leg and frees him. Castle walks into a gutwrench powerbomb by Woods. Huge knee strike and it’s only a two! Back elbow by Castle and a big boot to Nese. Woods gets sent to the outside with a clothesline. Castle uses Boy 1 as a projectile to Nese. Boy 2 now goes to Nese as well. Woods is here but Castle catches Woods’ leapfrog right into the BangARang for the win.

Winner: Dalton Castle

Rating: **3/4. Pretty entertaining, competitive match here. Both men have similar styles and I think it would have been nice to see Woods get a win, but, not today.

Match #7. The Kingdom vs. The Infantry

Arm drags by Dean send Bennett back into the corner. Running back elbow and Bravo is in with a penalty kick, senton by Dean, somersault senton by Bravo. Bravo with a dropkick to Taven who’s legal now. Bravo with a slingshot stunner from the outside in that gets two. Bennett with a running clothesline in the corner and a big boot. Brainbuster by Taven gets two. Taven in now and he sends Bravo into a spinebuster. Lionsault by Taven. Two count. Kick/punch combo by Taven and a DDT get another two. Huge misdirection right hand by Bravo floors Taven and Dean gets the tag. Dean cleans house with back body drops and corner splashes. Double crossbody off the top by Dean. Tiger Bomb by Dean gets a two count. Bravo get the tag and a double team twisting uranage gets two. Bravo hits the rope but Taven gets him with a knee. Kick of the King by Taven and a powerbomb/Russian leg sweep combo gets two. Slingshot by Bennett but Bravo hits a forearm to Taven. Scissor kick by Bravo and a splash off the top by Dean gets a near fall. Pump kick/Russian leg sweep by The Infantry to Taven as Bennett and Dean take each other out with clotheslines. Maria is up on the apron and Bennett has a chair. Bennett goes to the mid-section of Dean with the chair but Trish Adora is here and pulls Maria off the apron. Maria runs to the back as Taven gets crotched on the top rope and Dean rolls up Bennett for the win!

Winners: The Infantry

Rating: **1/4. Big upset here, but The Infantry have lost to The Kingdom a heck of a lot and this one wouldn’t have helped. Good for the Infantry, lots of fresh faces getting time to shine in ROH.

Match #8. Lee Moriarty & Big Bill vs. Matt Sydal & Blake Christian

Headlock takeover by Moriarty but Sydal gets to his feet and returns the favor with a wrist lock takeover. European uppercuts by Moriarty and Sydal flips out of a tiltawhirl suplex. Flying headscissors by Sydal and a standing corkscrew moonsault gets two. Christian in now but Moriarty attacks with an octopus stretch but Christian escapes. Dropkick to the face and a basement 619. Handspring corkscrew kick off the ropes for two. Running single leg dropkick in the corner to a seated Moriarty by the now-legal man, Sydal. Moriarty tags Big Bill, who’s officially just made his in-ring debut for Ring of Honor. Sydal chops the tree down with leg kicks but Bill drives a big knee to the stomach. Sydal looks for a hurricanrana but Bill holds him as Moriarty comes in and kicks him in the head. Sydal in trouble now in the opposing corner as Bill and Moriarty make quick tags. Half-and-half suplex from the front chancery, with a bridge, for two. Bill in now and misses a charge in the corner, so Moriarty makes the tag and suffers the same fate. Spinning leg lariat by Sydal the Christian gets the hot tag. Dropkick to bill off the apron and a spear on the apron to Moriarty. Low-pe suicide dive by Big Bill and a Fosbury Flop to Moriarty! Springboard 450 from the apron by Christian to Moriarty but Bill breaks up the pin! Double dropkick to Moriarty but Bill makes the tag. Double clothesline to Christian and Sydal. Bill goozles Christian but Christian hits a knee to the face in mid-air. Christian runs into a HUGE Bossman Slam but Sydal breaks up the near-fall. Moriarty in to set up a double team powerbomb but Christian pushes Bill into a hurricanrana to the floor. Christian follows with a somersault 450 but Bill moves and it’s a chokeslam on the apron! East River Crossing to Christian and Bill gets the pin!

Winners: Lee Moriarty & Big Bill

Rating: ***. Bill and Moriarty are on to something here. Bill has to be the most improved wrestler over the last two years, and Moriarty doesn’t miss. Sydal and Christian have great chemistry as a team as well, good stuff here.

Match #9. The Dark Order w/ Negative One vs. Davey Bang & August Matthews

Silver with a high crotch to Bang and a clothesline. Huge biel to Bang and Reynolds in with a clothesline in the corner. Tiger Bomb but Matthews breaks up the pin. Reynolds throws Bang into Matthews and demands he tag him. Rolling elbow by Reynolds and some mounted punches. Matthews looks for a jackknife roll up on Reynolds but Silver comes in and powerbombs him on Reynolds knees. Silver attacks Bang on the apron and then throws him into the guard rail on the outside. Running enziguiri into a rolling elbow into an enziguiri into a stunner and German suplex with a jackknife cover for the win.

Winners: The Dark Order

Rating: NR

The Righteous and Stu Grayson appear on the tron and call out Dark Order for next week, asking for aggression. Dark Order accepts and Reynolds piledrives Matthews and Silver hits the UFO, sending a message.

Match #10. Shane Taylor & The Workhorsemen vs. Action Andretti, Darius Martin, & AR Fox

Feels like Fox & Crew are everywhere these days. Code of Honor but WorkHorsemen and Taylor level everyone. Fox back flips out of a few attacks from Taylor and connects with an enziguiri. Martin comes off the top with a dropkick that sends Taylor into his own corner and tags Henry. Bottom rope bulldog by Martin but Drake meets him on the outside with a big elbow. Cannonball in the corner by Drake. Ripcord uranage by Taylor. Brainbuster by Henry but he gets two when Fox breaks it up. Fox hots a corner moonsault to Drake on the outside. Swinging flatliner by Martin to Henry on the inside. Andretti gets the tag and hits a pop-up dropkick. Disaster kick by Andretti to Taylor. High kick and superkick combo by Henry but he runs into a Spanish Fly by Andretti. Drake eats an enziguiru and then Andretti Arabian presses to Henry on the outside. Springboard back elbow and German suplex combo by Martin and Andretti to Drake. Fox gets the tag but Taylor levels everyone with clotheslines and headbutts. Spinebuster by Drake to Fox. Slingshot by Drake into Taylor’s waiting arms for Welcome to the Land, assisted by a Henry double stomp off the top. Andretti breaks up the pinfall. Martin sends Taylor and Drake into each other and to the floor. Andretti with a plancha over the top but gets caught, so Martin suicide dives through them all. Fox and Henry trade strikes inside the ring and Fox gets a rollup out of nowhere for the win.

Winners: AR Fox, Darius Martin, & Action Andretti

Rating: **3/4. This match was short but it never let up. All action sprint.

Match #11. Pure Rules: Daniel Garcia vs. Rocky Romero

Tie up early and Garcia forces Rocky into the ropes, making him use a rope break. Flying arm bar by Rocky and Garcia uses a quick rope break. Flying head scissors by Rocky and Garcia takes a walk. Suicide dive by Rocky before sending Garcia back in the ring. Running Sliced Bread out of nowhere gets a two count. Forever clotheslines by Rocky but Garcia hits a throat thrust behind the referee’s back and sends Rocky into the turnbuckle with a butterfly suplex. Two count. Rocky locks in a standing octopus hold but Garcia falls to the ropes and that’s his second rope break. Second flying headscissors attempt by Rocky but Garcia catches the leg and locks in the STF. Rocky fights to the bottom rope and eventually gets there. Both men have one break left. Garcia teases some Latino Heat but boot washes Rocky instead. Garcia charges but Rocky counters with a rising knee and both men are down. Both men find their way on the top rope now and Garcia has a fireman’s carry but Rocky counters into a hurricanrana from the top. Double dropkick off the top to Garcia who uses the third rope break before the three count. Rocky focuses the attack on the arm now with a kimura. Victory roll by Garcia right into a Boston Crab. Rocky gets to the ropes and that’s his third rope break. Rear naked choke by Garcia, who calls out Shibata. PK by Garcia but Rocky catches it and delivers palm strikes and the rebound kick. Lariat by Garcia. DragonTamer by Garcia but Rocky rolls him up for two. Springboard DDT by Rocky and a Falcon Arrow into an arm bar in the center of the ring! Garcia fights to the ropes and even though there’s no rope break, he uses the ropes as leverage to roll through and reverse into the DragonTamer! Rocky fights to the ropes tries to climb underneath, but there is no rope break and Rocky is forced to tap!

Winner: Daniel Garcia

Rating: ***. Both of these guys are perfectly suited for this style, and Garcia is truly turning into a young American Dragon.

After the match, Garcia attacks and tries the DragonTamer again but Orange Cassidy is here to make the save.

Match #12. ROH Women’s Championship Street Fight: Athena (c) vs. Kiera Hogan

Athena with some ground and pound early before looking for a ladder. Hogan hits a baseball slide into the ladder, sending Athena crashing to the floor. Both women brawl on the outside now. Hogan grabs a trash can lid and Athena grabs the kendo stick. Athena sends Hogan IN the trash can and then beats on it with the kendo stick. Hogan throws the trash can into Athena and comes back with a running hip attack in the corner. Now a dropkick with the trash can in the face of Athena. Fisherman’s neckbreaker on the trash can by Hogan and that gets two. Hogan sets up a ladder on the outside as a bridge and puts Athena on it. Hogan comes off the top with a splash but Athena moves and Hogan crashes ribs-first on the ladder. Athena sends Hogan into the guard rail a bunch and then unfolds about six chairs facing each other. Now stacking another level of chairs on top of that. Athena takes too long and Hogan sends Athena crashing through another table on the outside. Hogan grabs the kendo stick and continues the attack. Athena finds one of her own and we’re trading back and forth. Hogan sets up Athena on a table and comes off the apron with a splash, but the table doesn’t break, so she now goes to the second rope and comes off with a splash and this time the table breaks. Athena uses the ladder as a weapon and sets up a table inside the ring. Athena heads up to the top rope but Hogan catches her. Hogan tries to bring Athena off with a headscissor but Athena holds on and powerbombs Hogan through the table! Two count. Athena sets up a trash can in the corner and then goes underneath the ring and grabs a mysterious bag of… thumbtacks! Athena looks for a powerbomb on the tacks but eats a superkick and returns the favor. Athena charges Hogan but Hogan moves and Athena hits the trash can. Tear drop suplex by Hogan into the tacks! Two count. Hogan chokes Athena with her braids, and picks Athena up off the floor from the turnbuckle. Athena goes to the eyes! Athena steps on the apron and superplexes Hogan off the top through the dozen chairs on the floor! Athena carries an almost unconscious Hogan back in the ring and covers her for the three count.

Winner and STILL ROH Women’s World Champion: Athena

Rating: ***1/2. Both women pulled out all the stops here. While parts of it were bowling shoe ugly, that’s what a street fight looks like. The story between the two made sense and Athena is carrying the entire ROH Women’s Division.

Final Thoughts: A LONG episode of Ring of Honor tonight, but a consistent episode of Ring of Honor. The main event delivered and the youth movement continues with Kyle Fletcher and Trish Adora getting big wins. The Dark Order and Righteous storyline is intriguing and the build to Death Before Dishonor has officially started. 7.5/10.
