AEW Collision 4/6/24
From the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts! Darn near midnight here but we’re opening with the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Match #1. AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament: FTR vs. Top Flight
Arm drags and an arm bar by Darius. Shoulder block by Dax and a roll up for two. Quick tags now as Dax isolates the arm of Dante. Catapult underneath the bottom rope by Dax. Spinebuster by Dax and Darius is in trouble throughout the commercial break. Majistral cradle by Darius but he only gets two. Dax responds with a hard right hand that drops Darius and now a hard chop, but Darius asks foe more. Dariu chops his way out of the opposing corner and counters a Gory Special into a cradle for two. Dante is here with a rising knee and a Pele off the middle rope by Darius. Middle rope bulldog by Darius and an anziguiri from the outside. Suicide dive by Dante and a bottom rope assisted Flatliner by Darius! Two count. Cash gets the tag and Dante goes over a sunset flip attempt. Darius with a springboard crossbody that takes out everyone. Darius ducks a lariat and sticks Dax with a German suplex. Cash rolls through a sunset flip for two. Dante gets sent into the corner and he holds on, feigns a jump, and turns around right into the Shatter Machine!
Winners: FTR
Rating: ***1/4. This one was all over the place in a good way. FTR winning is the next step of the tag tournament and the collision course with the Bucks is almost set.
Match #2. Pac vs. Encore Moore
Pac wastes no time and lasts more before the bell rings. Hammer throws by Pac before running Moore head-first into the turnbuckle. Snap suplex by Pac. Make that two. A third suplex gets turned into a brainbuster. Running European uppercut in the corner and Pac goes up for the Black Arrow but walks down from the top rope and finishes with the Brutalizer instead.
Winner: Pac
Rating: NR
Pac grabs the mic and challenges Okada. Do you think he can survive The Bastard? Pac doesn’t.
Bryan Danielson is in the back with Renee. Danielson says he’s in this constant wheel of evolving and he’s not the same person he was when he was 21, and the same goes for Ospreay. Danielson says he doesn’t feel the pressure but he wants to continue testing himself. Danielson says he has no doubt the fans will enjoy it, but that’s not why he’s doing this one.
Match #3. LionHook vs. Shane Taylor Promotions
Taylor attacks Jericho early with an avalanche and some body shots in the corner. Double suplex by LionHook to Taylor. Moriarty and Hook in now as Hook connects with an exploder. Jericho with the tag now and Moriarty comes off the middle rope with a dropkick, but Jericho catches him and looks for the Walls. Taylor misses a clothesline from the outside and Jericho double jump dropkicks him to the floor. Morarty attacks from behind with a kravat and now Taylor is in, grounding Jericho and making quick tags during the commercial break. Back from break and Taylor attempts a splash but Jericho gets the knees up. Moriarty is in and misses a dropkikc, and here’s a Lionsault by Jericho! Hook gets the hot tag and clears the ring with clotheslines and hip tosses. Northern Light’s suplex with a bridge gets two. Hook can’t get Taylor up for the exploder so he low bridges him instead. Moriarty is here with a flatliner out of no where! Border City Stretch in the middle of the ring but Jericho is trying to get to his knees and does. Jericho tries to turn Moriarty over for the Walls and does. Taylor comes in the ring to break up the Walls of Jericho but Hook is here and tosses Taylor with an exploder as Moriarty taps!
Winners: LionHook
Rating: **1/4. Fine tag match here, establishing the chemistry between LionHook.
Anthony Ogogo is here and attacks both men from behind. STP get to their feet and it’s a 3 on 2 beat down. Taylor and Moriarty hold Jericho up, as Ogogo lays him out with a straight right hand.
Dustin Rhodes is here and he feels underappreciated, and he wants a title shot this week. Ask and ye shall receive.
Renee is with Will Ospreay. Ospreay says his time in Japan helped him feel so comfortable in taking on Bryan Danielson. Ospreay watched Danielson growing up and he doesn’t know if Danielson is still at the level he is right now, and it’s his goal to be the greatest wrestlers in the 20th century.
Match #4. House of Black vs. Bryan Keith, Christopher Daniels, & Matt Sydal
Keith with some elbows to the arm of Black who fights his way out and both men trade headlocks. Both guys trade forearms and Keith gets the upper hand, sending Black to the corner and delivering an exploder for a quick one count. Keith hits the ropes and Black catches him with a running knee before tagging Brody King. Sydal and Daniels try to attack King but he comes back with a double clothesline. Hard lariat to Daniels, who’s in trouble in the House of Black’s corner throughout the commercial break. Daniels catches Black with a back slide for two. Then a cradle. Black misses Black Mass and Daniels drops him with a Saito suplex. Matthews gets the tag as does Sydal. Sydal with low kicks to everyone before chopping Matthews down with round kicks. Around the world hurricanrana and a high kick by Sydal. Two count. Sydal wants a guillotine but Matthews throws him into Brody and it’s Dante’s Inferno! Keith with a Shining Wizard to King. Enziguiri to Matthews. King ducks a clothesline and drills Keith with a lariat. Cannonball in the corner by King with two pairs of boots from the apron. Two count. Daniels is by himself with the House of Black and it’s Black Mass that sends Daniels to the floor. V-Trigger to Keith and the Pump Handle driver-esque finisher and this is over.
Winners: House of Black
Rating: **1/4. Not the most competitive match but it didn’t have to be. A good showing for House of Black and Buddy Matthews gets some love so I’m all for it.
Adam Copelands music hits and Black walks down the ramp, but Copeland attacks King and Matthews in the ring. Black has a face-to-face with Copeland as everyone jumps him, but REACH FOR THE SKY, BOYS! Mark Briscoe and FTR make the save. The Young Bucks music hits and they make their way down the ramp and a brawl breaks out. Copeland takes out King with a chair and Matthew is by himself with Copeland and company, but Nicholas pulls him to safety as the good guys stand tall.
LionHook are in the back with Lexi. They got a good win, and it must have been hilarious when Ogogo laid them out. They want revenge. Bet. Bet. Wait, here’s Katsuyori Shibata? “Bet” via translator. Amazing.
Match #5. Trish Adora vs. Yuka Sakazaki
Hard shoulder block by Adora but Sakazaki kips up. Double armbar with a twerk by Adora as both women fight to the outside. Chops by Adora but Yuka rebounds with a baseball slide. Tarantula by Yuka but she breaks before the five count as we go to commercial. Back from break and Adora delivers some shoulders in the corner but catches a boot to the face. Step-up enziguiri by Yuka and a missile dropkick off the top. Two count. Adora blocks a neckbreaker and reverses with a snap suplex from her knees. Both women trade elbows and Adora gets planted with a German suplex. Snowplow by Yuka! Adora with a front half-and-half suplex now and a Bubba Bomb. Two count with a leg grapevine. Yuka hammerlocks the arm and hits a spinning side slam. Yuka walks up the ropes and hits a big splash. One, two, three!
Winner: Yuka Sakazaki
Rating: **1/2. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Yuka in an AEW ring and this was a good wun for her on her return. Adora, as we’ve seen, is getting more and more time to shine as well.
After the match, Serena Deeb makes her presence known.
Match #6. Claudio Castagnoli vs. The Butcher
Shoulder blocks in the center of the ring and neither guys is moving. Butcher decides to bite Claudio’s head so Claudio responds with a jumping shoulder block. Body slam by Claudio. Running European uppercut in the corner by Claudio. Claudio tries a second one but Butcher ducks under and delivers a backbreaker. Forearms to the back of the spine now by Butcher but Clauduio turns around with one to the face. Half-and-half backbreaker by Butcher. Crossface by Butcher but Claudio stands up with Butcher on his back…Â Death Valley Driver! European uppercuts by Claudio in the corner and a short-arm clothesline. Giant Swing by Claudio! Neutralizer by Claudio and that’ll do it.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
Rating: **1/4. Another not so competitive match, but a good win to continue Claudio’s momentum.
Samoa Joe responds to Dustin Rhodes. Dustin will not get what he wants, but he will give him an eliminator match.
Match #7. Penta el Zero Miedo vs. Komander
Spinning back kick by Penta and a cradle by Komander. Two count. Komander misses a punt and both men kip up. Stalemate. Spinning hook kick by Komander. Tilt-a-whirl head scissors by Komander. Komander tries a handspring but Penta follows with a dropkick into the sternum! Pop-up hurricanrana by Komander sends Penta to the outside. Komander wants a suicide dive but Penta catches him in a military press and drops him on the steps! Running leg lariat in the corner by Penta back inside the ring. Both guys trade chops Running leg kick by Penta and Komander hits the deck. Around the world tieres by Komander and a suicide dive to the outside. Back inside the ring, Penta springboards off the middle rope into a twisting Canadian Destroyer! Penta wants the Fear Factor but Komander rolls him up for two. Majistral cradle into a modified Tequila Sunrise (kind of), but Penta makes the ropes. Penta rolls in the ring over the top right into a Spanish Fly by Komander! Two count. Komander charges in the corner and eats an enziguiri. Springboard Destroyer over the top to Komander on the apron! Komander pretty much lands on his feet on the outside and back body drops Penta and both guys are down. Back in the ring, brutal chops by both men. Short jab by Komander but he runs into a superkick. Made in Japan by Penta! One, two, no! Both guys on top now as Penta chops the soul from Komander. Penta wants a superplex but Komander lands on his feet and runs the ropes for a twisting springboard tornillo. Penta rolls to the outside and Komander walks the ropes again for an asai moonsault to the floor! Penta gets rolled back inside the ring and Komander wants the rope walk Shooting Star Press, but Penta meets him in mid-air with a Code Breaker! Fear Factor and this one is over.
Winner: Penta
Rating: ****. If this is your bag, you’ll love this. Two dudes going out there in the main event to steal the show and they did just that. Tons of holy s spots and momentum built for Penta ahead of his TNT Championship match against Adam Copeland.
