All Elite Wrestling returns to the airwaves with another jam-packed episode of AEW Dynamite tonight.
Featured below are complete AEW Dynamite results for Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS
This week’s show kicks off with an epic Jake “The Snake” Roberts promo putting over The Murderhawk Monster Lance Archer better than anyone else in the business could.
TNT Championship Tournament Quarterfinals
Colt Cabana vs. Lance Archer
From there, we shoot to a video package hyping up Colt Cabana and the TNT Championship Tournament.
Colt Cabana’s colorful titan tron entrance video then plays as he makes his way to the ring. Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho check in on commentary putting over Archer as Cabana finishes his ring walk.
Archer begins his entrance and attacks a random person on his way to the ring. He enters the ring and immediately knocks Cabana off his feet. The bell sounds to make this one official and as Jericho sings the praises of Archer while Cabana mixes in some comedy, a move Jericho mentions not being overly wise on commentary.
The action spills to the floor where Archer regroups as Cabana gets in some offense. We see Archer completely take over the offense when he re-enters the ring. We see a shot of Jake Roberts watching on in approval. Cabana tries firing up on offense, however Archer no-sells it and continues his beat down. The smattering of people serving as the audience for tonight begin chanting “Let’s go Colt!” which angers Archer.
It’s all Archer now as Jericho continues to sing his praises and he continues to dominate the action. We head to a mid-match commercial.
We return from the break and Archer is still dominating the action. One of the fans in attendance yells “Show some mercy,” which Jericho acknowledges on commentary. He says there’s no crying in baseball and no mercy in AEW.
Cabana now starts making his comeback. He goes for the flying apple and another unique move as things as finally going Colt’s way for the first time in the bout. It doesn’t last long, however, as Archer gets Cabana with his Black Out finisher to earn the victory and advance to the semi-finals of the TNT Championship Tournament.
Winner and ADVANCING in TNT Championship Tournament: Lance Archer
Ariel Helwani On AEW Dynamite
Ariel Helwani, ESPN MMA reporter, also checks in to put over the Jake Hager vs. Jon Moxley “Empty Arena No Holds Barred” match for the AEW title later tonight.
Taz Analyzes Jake Hager
We return from the break and in an in-depth analysis segment, Taz breaks down Jake Hager’s MMA skills to continue the show-long hype for the Empty Arena No Holds Barred AEW World Title Match.
Cassandra Golden vs. Dr. Britt Baker
We see a Dr. Britt Baker vignette explaining the rules of being a role model in a dentists office. She has her nose taped to sell the injury to Shida last week.
“The Golden One” Cassandra Golden, 0-1 in AEW, makes her way to the ring for our next bout of the evening. Dr. Britt Baker, with an updated dentist-style titan tron video, makes her way out.
This one lasts all of a minute at best, as Baker squashes Golden with ease, picking up another victory in the AEW women’s division here on Dynamite.
Winner: Dr. Britt Baker
Celebrities Predict Hager-Moxley
We see Ron Funches, a comedian, Mike Goldberg, the voice of Bellator MMA and others give their predictions for tonight’s AEW Dynamite Empty Arena No Holds Barred World Title Match between Jon Moxley and Jake Hager.
The Bubbley Bunch
In a Brady Bunch parody, complete with the tic-tac-toe board with their faces on web-cams, Saturday Night Live opener style, we see our first check-in with The Bubbley Bunch, including one of the Proud N Powerful members talking to his teddy bears, Sammy Guevara working out and talking smack and more.
Sammy Guevara vs. Suge D.
Suge D., 0-1 in AEW, whom Chris Jericho references as “Pineapple Pete” from the crowd on Dynamite the past few weeks, rolls his way into the ring for our next match of the evening.
After him, “The Spanish God” of The Inner Circle, Sammy Guevara, makes his way to the ring. The bell sounds and here we go. Straight out of the gate it’s obvious this is going to feature a lot of “comedic relief” for the evening.
Suge D. and Guevara do a ton of various comedy spots, with “The Spanish God” dominating the offense for the most part throughout, all-the-while Chris Jericho has a comedic field day on commentary. Guevara eventually picks up the win.
Winner: Sammy Guevara
Darby Allin Saves Suge D. After The Match
After the match ends, Guevara gets on the mic and gives what he calls a “spoiler” in the TNT Championship Tournament — he is going to beat the “sh*t” out of Darby Allin.
He says he’s going to give us a preview of what that will look like, so he goes over and beats down Suge D. some more until finally Darby Allin hits the ring and makes the save.
More Celebrities Give Hager-Moxley Predictions
Now we go to some more pre-recorded predictions for tonight’s Hager-Moxley main event, including legendary MMA referee “Big” John McCarthy and AEW announcer Excalibur. After the clips, we head to commercial break.
Kip Sabian vs. Chuck Taylor
Kip Sabian, accompanied by Penelope Ford, make their way to the ring. The recently married couple get high praise from Chris Jericho as they finish up their entrance.
After they finish their ring walk, The Best Friends titan tron video plays and out comes Chuck Taylor to take on Sabian in our next singles bout of the evening.
The bell sounds and here we go. Jericho is having plenty of fun on commentary during this match as well. Something is bleeped as Taylor is dominating the action thus far.
The pace picks up now as Taylor continues to deliver his onslaught to Sabian while we see a shot of “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy watching on.
Jericho offers the name of “Chuckie Cheese” for a move done by Taylor just now. He says Taylor is free to steal that. Orange Cassidy is shown looking cool as a cuecumber again, while Penelope Ford is shown watching on while Sabian misses a top-rope spot and leading to a comeback by The Best Friends member.
Sabian kisses Ford when she jumps on apron, leading to Orange jumping up and taking his jean jacket off, looking for a smooch of his own. Penelope ends up getting involved again, providing Sabian with the assist.
Winner: Kip Sabian
Even More Celebrities Give Hager-Moxley Predictions
Dan Soder, an actor, Ortiz and Sammy Guevara from The Inner Circle, are three more prediction web cam videos that are shown hyping tonight’s Empty Arena No Holds Barred AEW World Title Match between Jake Hager and Jon Moxley. After that, we head back to commercial.
Shawn Spears vs. Justin Law
Justin Law, making his AEW debut, is making his way to the ring for our next singles match of the evening. Out next is his opponent for tonight, “The Chairman of AEW” Shawn Spears.
As we come out of the break, we see video highlights of Cody defeating Spears on Dynamite last week and then his bounce-back victory over Billy Gunn on last night’s edition of AEW DARK.
As Spears makes his way to the ring, he jaws with Billy Gunn, who is among the dozen bodies scattered around the crowd as part of the “audience” for AEW Dynamite this week. The bell sounds and we see Spears standing in the corner smiling and still wearing his t-shirt.
The Chairman of AEW allows Law to purposely gain amateur wrestling advantage, which almost backfires on him. Instead, it ultimately pisses him off and without taking his t-shirt off, Spears spazzes out on Law, finishing him off with his C4 finisher.
Winner: Shawn Spears
And Yet Even More Celebrities Give Hager-Moxley Predictions
Josh Thomson, Bellator MMA broadcast member and former Strikeforce Champion and UFC veteran, gives his Moxley-Hager prediction. Now we see Santana from The Inner Circle checking in with his thoughts.
AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
(Empty Arena No Holds Barred Match)
Jon Moxley (C) vs. Jake Hager
We head to commercial break as Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho sign off and turn the broadcast over to Jim Ross, who will call tonight’s main event, and referee Paul Turner, who will serve as the official for the contest.
Jon Moxley defends the AEW World Championship in an Empty Arena No Holds Barred Match against The Inner Circle’s Jake Hager when AEW Dynamite returns from the break.
We return from the break to the voice of “Good Ole’ J.R.,” who breaks down the “Tale of the Tape” for this, our AEW Dynamite main event for the AEW World’s Heavyweight Championship.
From there, Jake Hager makes his way to the ring as his music plays and J.R. gives his amateur wrestling credentials and informs us that he is currently preparing for his next Bellator MMA heavyweight fight.
Ross informs us that Jon Moxley was born on Natural Disaster Day. He tells us he learned this while doing research on Moxley for tonight’s match. He tells us to “Google it.” Meanwhile, the familiar theme of the AEW World Champion plays as Moxley makes his way to the squared circle.
This is being treated like a legitimate sporting contest more so than any pro wrestling match in a long while. The bell sounds and here we go with our Empty Arena No Holds Barred title match main event. It turns out the smattering of “fans” in the seats in the building makes a significant, noticeable difference on the broadcast. It is dead-ass silent now as Moxley and Hager are slow to engage, circling each other and stalking one-another without doing much here in the early goings.
Moxley with an inside leg-trip for a takedown on the amateur wrestling / MMA specialist. Now he rolls for an armbar from his back, which Hager blasts his way out of. Hey, Moxley is the AEW World Champion, folks.
As the action continues, Moxley throws Hager out to the floor and hits a springboard splash on him from the ring. Now, on the floor, Moxley again rolls for an armbar, which Hager fights his way out of. On that note, J.R. sends us to a mid-match commercial break.
We’re back from the break and we see Hager whip Moxley into the ring barricade as the action is still out on the floor. Now Moxley hops the security railing, which leads to J.R. questioning out loud why there are security railings when no one is here. Excellent question.
Meanwhile, Moxley is starting to fire up on offense a bit, getting back into the match until Hager back-body drops him on concrete to keep the offensive momentum in his favor. Hager blasts Moxley with a field-goal kick to the chin as Moxley hangs over the arm railing half way up the arena stairs.
As they continue to brawl up the arena, Moxley takes back over control of the fight. They brawl through various aisles, taking the fight up and down the arena stairs, making good use of the giant open space they’ve got at their disposal. Hager slams Moxley into the ring barricade a few times to take back over control of the offense.
Moxley yells “Screw you! Screw you!” as he spits at Hager defiantly as he gets beat down some more by the MMA star. Hager slams Moxley’s shoulder and torso into the railing.
The fight finally makes its’ way back to the ring, where the pace picks up as neither man is in firm control at this point in the contest. Hager gets a near fall after a big gut-wrench power bomb. J.R. takes us to another mid-match commercial break on that note.
We’re back from the break and we see that Hager has established the offensive control, however Moxley is firing up now while selling his arm. J.R. also puts over the arm of Moxley being hurt as he finds a pile driver attempt reversed into an ankle lock submission. Moxley escapes and catches Hager coming off the ropes with a DDT.
Hager out of nowhere slaps an arm-triangle on Moxley, with J.R. re-referencing the hurt arm of Moxley. Moxley eventually makes it to the ropes to force the ref to break the hold. Both guys are slow to return to their feet. Hager is up first and starts blasting Moxley, who is on his knees, with punches in the corner. Moxley yells out a war scream as J.R. says he is “Mox’ing up!”
Jake yells “Idiot!” like Napolean Dynamite at Moxley as he rolls out of the ring. Hager goes out after him and grabs a steel chair, with J.R. again questioning why there are so many steel chairs around when no actual people are in the building. Hager uses the chair on Moxley in this No Holds Barred Empty Arena Match. He throws Moxley in the ring and the chair. Now he wedges the chair under the top turnbuckle.
We return and see Hager set the steel chair on Moxley’s leg and stomp on it. Hager puts Moxley in the Ankle Lock submission. Moxley is bleeped as he defiantly dares Hager to break his ankle. Finally, he crawls to the ropes to get out of the hold again.
Moxley now yanks on a guillotine attempt from full guard on the mat as Hager holds on and waits it out on top of the AEW World Champion. Finally he is free and the two start slugging it out. Hager blasts Moxley with a low blow.
Moxley grabs the chair and Sabu in ECW style, throws it in Hager’s face. Moxley follows up with his Paradigm Shift DDT finisher on the steel chair for the 1-2-3. Moxley wins and retains his title in what was an excellent Empty Arena No Holds Barred AEW World Title Match main event here on AEW Dynamite.
Winner and STILL AEW World Champion: Jon Moxley
