Following last night’s AEW Double or Nothing pay per view new TNT champion Cody Rhodes spoke with wrestling media in a post-show virtual scrum. Here are some highlights.
-Rhodes talked about the history of the Turner family and the Rhodes family, and how important becoming the first TNT champion was. He reveals that the design of the belt wasn’t finished due to delays from COVID-19, as the plates were originally supposed to be gold, but he may keep the current design because of his reaction when getting handed it by Mike Tyson.
-Speaking of Tyson…Rhodes called it surreal that he was at the event to present the title. He says Iron Mike is a huge AEW fan and was super happy to be involved.
-Rhodes praises Lance Archer. “He’s one of the top three people I’ve ever been in the ring with.” Admits that he questioned Tony Khan when he wanted to bring Archer in, but is 100% behind the decision now.
-Calls this time as a wrestling promoter and competitor one of the most challenging due to the virus outbreak. He’s looking forward to bringing back fans to arenas when it’s safe. He’s happy that they were able to provide some type of distraction for anyone at home watching.
-Talked about the differing styles between himself and the other members of The Elite. Credits the Young Bucks with having a Deadpool like approach to wrestling, with Kenny Omega having a DDT Pro style approach. Personally he enjoys the old-school Crockett esque style.
