WWE nXt Results
April 10, 2019
Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY
Commentary by Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness and Percy Watson
Opening Segment: Candice LeRae vs. Aliyah w. Vanessa Borne
Highlights include:
Aliyah asking Brooklyn to cheer for her from the top turnbuckle and then getting dropkicked by LeRae,
Knee drop into a front roll by Aliyah. She follows that up with stomping in the corner, slowly building some momentum.
LeRae kicks out of two pinfall attempts. McGuinness blames this on weak pinning position by Aliyah and he’s right.
Step up senton and LeRae yells for the crowd to get behind her. Rude Awakening, followed by a springboard moonsault for the win.
Winner: Candice LeRae via pinfall in 4 minutes
1 cool point for Aliyah. I know. Surprising. LeRae won the match, but she didn’t shine. Aliyah’s progress as a heel, as a wrestler getting crowd reaction, even with some of her moves is finally noticeable.
Highlights from nXt Takeover: New York are shown. In the North American Championship match, Velveteen Dream defeated Matt Riddle. Last Sunday, Velveteen Dream filmed a selfie video for Twitter where he talks about being at Wrestlemania. He pokes fun at Buddy Murphy, following his Cruiserweight Championship loss, saying Buddy couldn’t handle the spotlight.
Second Segment: More Highlights From Takeover: Phoenix
Highlights from the nXt Tag Team Championship match between the War Raiders and Ricochet and Aleister Black are shown. After the War Raiders’ win, they bow to the challengers as a sign of ultimate respect.
During TakeOver: New York, Japanese sensation Kushida got some camera time. The WWE.COM exclusive contract signing is shown. nXt COO Triple H and nXt General Manager William Regal say a few words about what an amazing wrestler Kushida is, and how happy they are to have him on the roster.
Third Segment: Danny Burch w. Oney Lorcan vs. Jaxson Ryker w. Forgotten Sons
Highlights include:
Burch with a quick start on pummeling Ryker, with chops and clotheslines.
Ryker responds with a series of strong forearms, clubbing Burch on the chest and back. Belly to back suplex sets up a diving headbutt. 1-2- kickout!
Jawbreaker counter by Burch on Ryker’s sleeper attempt. Burch lets loose with that strong right hand. Corner clothesline. Missile dropkick from the second rope. Kip up and a yell get the crowd to react, but that seems to cue Blake and Cutler to get involved on the apron. Lorcan runs through the ring and flies over the ropes to wipe out both men!
Meanwhile, Burch rolls up Ryker in a small package for a near fall.
Widowmaker (choke slam hold into a sit-down powerbomb) by Ryker earns him the win
Winner: Jaxson Ryker via pinfall in 4 minutes
Post-match, Ryker seems ready to hurt Burch again, but Lorcan defends him. Unfortunately, this quickly becomes a numbers game. Blake and Cutler jump Lorcan and leave him hurting on the mat.
1 cool point for both men. Love the strong style of Burch and that quick start to try and catch Ryker off guard. Ryker looked very strong and matched up well with the striking and power game. That was probably his best TV effort to date.
Highlights from the nXt Women’s Championship Fatal Four-Way match between Shayna Baszler (c), Io Shirai, Kairi Sane and Bianca Belair are shown. Baszler retains the title and stands tall alongside her Horsewomen friends, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.
Post-match, Baszler tells WWE.COM that she’s never losing this title.
Highlights from the nXt UK Championship match between Pete Dunne (c) and Walter are shown. Walter defeated Dunne, overpowering him to break the nearly two year streak. Post-match, WWE.COM catches Dunne returning to the backstage area. There will be a rematch, the Bruiserweight says.
Fourth Segment: Johnny TakeOver or Johnny Triple Crown?
Highlights from the nXt Championship Two out of Three Falls match are shown. Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole fought a thrilling main event match. Cole was hungry, but Gargano was starving, and it showed in the culmination of the match. Gargano simply would not give up, even after being slammed through a table and dealing with interference from the Undisputed Era.
Post-match, Cole and the Undisputed Era are seen arguing with one another about what happened.
nXt has a new theme song: “All Out Life” by Slipknot. It continues the trend of having an aggressive, hard-rock/metal type song to introduce the weekly nXt show.
Main Event: Street Profits vs. Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner
Highlights include:
Barthel and Ford start this one out. Barthel gets the best of Ford, knocking him down to the mat multiple times. He tags in Aichner. Beauty brainbuster suplex for a 2 count.
Aichner and Barthel with an excellent use of double team tag time, spinebuster from Aichner, followed by a sharp kick to the face of Ford by Barthel.
Ford finally sneaks to his corner to tag in Dawkins. Big clotheslines on Barthel. Leg hook suplex slams to both UN guys.
He tags in Ford and lifts up Aichner in the electric chair. Ford goes up to the top turnbuckle but is pushed off by Barthel. Momentum is stopped. Combination basement dropkicks on Ford in the opposing team’s corner.
Brainbuster by Aichner on Ford. Double springboard moonsault! 1-2- NO! Ford kicks out. Tremendous. Ford has no idea where he is, reaching for an unknown place to tag in Dawkins.
Aichner prepares to powerbomb Ford. As he does, Dawkins spears him. Barthel tries to compensate, but he’s stopped, lifted up in the electric chair for an avalanche blockbuster/suplex by Dawkins and Ford!
Winners: Street Profits via pinfall in 7 minutes
1 cool point for both teams. Street Profits squeak it out. Love their double team finishing move in this one. Ford took a beating for his team, but all that did was bring the fans on his team’s side.
Barthel & Aichner are in a similar position to where Lorcan & Burch were a year ago. Very capable hands in the ring, they work hard and have an appealing moveset. The more they have matches like this, where they are seen as potential victors, the more seriously they will be taken in the tag team division.
Takeover: New York Predictions
nXt Championship, Best 2 of 3 Falls: Adam Cole def. Johnny Gargano
nXt Women’s Championship: Baszler (c) ret. Shirai vs. Belair vs. Sane
nXt Tag Team Championship: War Raiders (c) def. Ricochet/Aleister Black
nXt UK Championship: Walter def. Pete Dunne (c)
nXt North American Championship: Matt Riddle def. Velveteen Dream (c)
3/5 this time around. I knew I was dreaming to see Cole win. That Gargano story is just too good not to tell. Still, I hope the feud continues. Also, Riddle didn’t win, but he beat up Dream and demonstrated the range of ability he possesses in the ring.
Match of the night was the Tag Team Championship. Those 4 men had as good a hot opener as you can have and continued the trend of amazing tag team matches at TakeOver. Bravo. Go watch it, if you haven’t already.
Have a great week!
