Tonight, history is made as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) kicks off their AEW Dynamite on TNT weekly, live two-hour television series. This evening, AEW presents their debut show from the Ocean One Arena in Washington, D.C.
We will be providing live play-by-play results coverage of AEW on TNT right here at LordsofPain.net this evening. The televised portion of the show is scheduled to kick off at 8pm Eastern Time / 5pm Pacific Time.
AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS (10/2)
Here we go! AEW Dynamite is officially up-and-running as the first moments of the historic premiere broadcast is NOW underway LIVE on TNT.
The opening video package for the show plays and then we shoot live inside the Ocean One Arena in Washington, D.C. for the introduction to the debut episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT.
The camera pans around the arena as Jim Ross makes his opening remarks on commentary. From there, J.R. and the announce team run down some of the matches and other content scheduled for tonight’s show.
Cody vs. Sammy Guevara
After that we go to a video package which starts off looking at Cody vs. Sammy Guevara hype for tonight’s match. The Cody-Guevara opener is up next as the first-ever AEW match on TNT.
From there, some ominous music plays as the camera pans to the entrance stage. Smoke billows out of the entrance way, pyro explodes and fans erupt as Cody and Brandi Rhodes appear on stage. Fireworks go off along with fire pyro, and the ring announcer begins the formal pre-match introductions.
Cody and Brandi Rhodes make their way down the ramp as the applause from the fans pick up inside the Capital One Arena. He poses for the fans and we’ve got a crazy mix of thunderous reactions as fans seem to boo, cheer, chant Cody’s name and make 1,000 other reactions all inside about ten seconds.
Sammy Guevara’s theme hits the house speakers now as the camera returns to the entrance way. Guevara comes out to the ramp way now as the fans clearly, unanimously boo as he comes down to the ring.
The bell rings and the fans start cheering and doing various chants as Cody and Sammy circle each other. They lock up and Cody powers Sammy into the corner. The referee breaks them and the two stare each other down as the chants of AEW start pouring into the ring from the thousands of fans in attendance.
Both guys engage now and we get some exchanges of action leading to Cody retreating to the floor while Sammy taunts him and mocks him with cocky poses in the ring. Cody re-enters and the fans stomp their feet and clap as the two re-engage.
Cody starts to gain the upper-hand now as we get into the meat and potatos of this opening contest. He locks Sammy in the Figure-Four Leg lock as the fans roar inside the venue here in Washington D.C. with Ric Flair-inspired “WOOOOOOOO’s!” Guevara eventually makes it to the ropes to force a break of the submission.
As the two restart on their feet, the fans break out into a “Let’s Go Cody!” chant. The two exchange knife-edge chops now in the corner of the ring as we are served a series of the aforementioned Flair-influenced “WOOOOO” reactions from the passionate wrestling fanbase in attendance.
The veteran, Cody, now shows off as he does a bunch of push-ups before giving fans a double-bicep pose as he goes back to work on Guevara, who is waiting on him and used that time to recover. Tony Schiavone tried initially making the claim that Cody was getting the blood back to his upper-torsoe as a way of explaining Cody doing a heel showcase spot with the push-ups.
I’m not making that up.
Nice try, Anthony Schiavone. Nice try.
Back to the action.
Cody and Sammy are picking up the pace now as the action gets more intense. The announcers inform us that AEW is trending number one worldwide right now.
Take that #WeAreNXT! Because #ImWithAEW!
Some more chop-exchanges by these two are followed up by some fast-paced, quick high-spots, with each guy coming up on the positive end of things on one occasion.
Moments later, Guevara pulls Cody’s wife, Brandi Rhodes, in front of him as Cody flew over the top-rope and attempted to splash onto him on the floor.
The fans boo’s echo throughout the arena now as the announcers get their serious voices on, Brandi gets her over-selling experience points and the AEW production team gets their replay crew warmed up for the evening with several looks-back at the aforementioned spot.
Back in the ring, the action resumes now as Sammy took advantage of a distracted Cody to turn the tide in the match. It did not last long, however, as moments later Cody covers Sammy after a high spot for a near fall that the crowd bit on a little.
“1, 2 … AWWWW!!”
Cody and Sammy go to the top rope now and we’ve got a big spot on our hands, as Sammy is seated backwards facing the crowd on the top rope as Cody climbs up after him.
Cody is knocked off the top and ultimately, Sammy executes a Shooting Star Press landing on the knees of Cody, who got them up just in time. The crowd “OOOH’d” and “AWWW’d” at the spot. This leads to Cody picking up the “W.”
Winner: Cody
After The Match: Emotional Moment For Cody Until Chris Jericho Strikes
After the match, the crowd goes nuts as Cody’s music plays and he celebrates. He eventually embraces Tony Schiavone in a touching moment to longtime pro wrestling fans who remember Dusty Rhodes as the lead attraction for NWA/WCW, with Schiavone as one of the main voices of the product as they battled against WWE as their top competitors. Cody, Dusty’s son, is carrying on one iconic torch and is already young in his career doing an incredible job at attempting to “follow in his father’s foot-steps.”
Before things can get too emotional, however, Chris Jericho makes a run-in to spoil the fun.
The AEW World Champion begins what would go on to be a long, drawn out post-match beatdown of the number one contender to his title and his next challenger at AEW Full Gear 2019.
We head to a commercial break during the beatdown and when we return, Jericho is still taking it to Cody. Jericho then gets on the mic and cuts a quick heel promo as the fans boo and J.R. responds, “Tell us something we don’t know!”
MJF vs. Brandon Cutler
We return to the ring for our second contest of the evening, as Brandon Cutler makes his way down to the squared-circle for his one-on-one showdown against Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF).
MJF then makes his way out to his music, but stops at the top of the ramp where he cuts a pre-match promo before making his walk to the ring. He makes some cocky comments to make sure the crowd boo’s him and then resumes his ring entrance, continuing to brag as he heads down the ramp.
“.. and you know it.”
Mic-drop.
The bell rings and our second match is up next here on AEW Dynamite. The two immediately get after it and soon after things get going, MJF sneaks in a cheap shot behind the referee’s back to set up the Fujiwara Armbar.
Cutler taps out. After the match we head to a commercial break.
Winner: MJF
Chris Van Vliet With Jay & Silent Bob
Chris Van Vliet is now ringside with director and writer Kevin Smith and actor Jason Mewes, better known as the popular comedy duo, Jay And Silent-Bob.
Jack Evans makes his way out and starts messing with Mewes. He tells him “Morris Day & The Time sucks,” a line straight out of the movie in their name, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
This leads to Mewes yanking the mic from Evans and mocking him. Now we see Private Party walking around ringside holding drinks.
Private Party, SCU & The Lucha Bros In-Arena Segment
Live in the arena we are introduced to SoCal Uncensored and some of the other teams involved in the AEW World Tag-Team Title Tournament. A video package is shown of SCU acting like Secret Service members since the show is in Washington D.C.
Tony Schiavone interviews the members of the group, who announce that Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian will be representing SCU in the tourney.
As soon as they make that announcement, out comes The Lucha Bros — Pentagon JR. and Rey Fenix. The crowd “OOH’s” and “AHH’s” now as the two teams stare each other down while Schiavone holds the stick in unbiased territory. The two teams end up in a pull-apart brawl with 100 officials breaking things up.
From there, the announcers throw in some more hype for the tourney and the hatred growing between SCU and the Lucha Bros after this latest development just before taking us to another commercial break.
Hangman Page vs. PAC
We’re back from the break and recent AEW World Championship challenger Hangman Adam Page makes his way down to the ring for his advertised singles match against PAC (f.k.a. WWE Superstar Neville).
PAC is now making his entrance to the ring as the announcers tell the story of how these two became rivals leading into tonight’s AEW Dynamite premiere episode. On that note, “Good Ole’ J.R.” leads us into a commercial break before the match gets officially underway.
The bell sounds to kick this one off and here we go.
These two immediately get after it and after the early-match smoke clears, it is Hangman Page who appears to be starting off with the early offensive lead in this contest.
As the action continues inside the squared circle, the announcers remind us that PAC might focus his attack on Page’s knee.
PAC now fights his way into the offensive lead. Page is outside of the ring and PAC hits a beautiful standing moonsault off the ring apron onto Page on the floor. The announcers speculate that Page hit his head on the barricade.
The former WWE star once known as Adrian Neville is now in a comfortable offensive lead as we head to a mid-match split-screen commercial break. One half of the screen is displaying live commercials, while the other continues on the action inside the ring. They have done this a couple of times throughout the broadcast this evening.
We return from the break and shortly after we settle back into the action, it’s over out of nowhere.
The referee, distracted due to his ring positioning, left an opening for the veteran PAC to exploit, as he blasts Page with a low-blow to set up his pin fall victory.
The announcers point out the fact that PAC is now 2-0 in high-profile AEW matches with consecutive victories over Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page.
Winner: PAC
AEW Women’s World Championship
Riho vs. Nyla Rose
Britt Baker makes her way out to the top of the stage after a quick AEW Full Gear PPV trailer airs. We return and Baker joins J.R., Schiavone and co. at the announce table to serve as guest commentator for our next match — which is the inaugural AEW Women’s World Championship contest.
With that said, the first of the two contenders who will compete for the vacant, inaugural AEW Women’s World Championship — Nyla Rose — makes her way down to the ring.
The announcers remind us that Rose won the Women’s Casino Battle Royale at AEW ALL OUT to earn her spot in tonight’s match.
Out next is her opponent for this history-making match in the AEW women’s division, Riho. The announcers explain to the audience the steps taken and victories earned by Riho to line her up for the second of the two coveted spots.
With Riho finishing up her ring entrance, the announcers take us to another commercial break. When we return, the inaugural AEW Women’s World Championship contest will be underway.
We return from the break and the action is underway. Early on, Riho is using her speed, quickness and agility to avoid her much larger, stronger foe. This, however, doesn’t last long, as Rose quickly establishes the offensive lead in this historic inaugural title contest.
The action spills out to the floor where Nyla Rose is continuing her brutal assault on the much smaller Riho. She is starting to look for weapons now, as she grabs steel chairs and other weapons from under the ring as the referee warns her not to use them and the announcers go on a several-minute rant making sure the fans watching at home understand that she can’t use weapons in a title match or she will be disqualified.
Clearly we’re setting up some kind of big spot where the weapons come into play via indirect use, thus allowed.
And bingo was his name-o.
As Rose goes under the ring and drags out several more steel chairs, establishing a big pile of them now on the floor, the announcers again question her intelligence and/or strategy as Riho regains her composure in the ring.
Riho hits a big spot off the top rope onto Rose on the floor on — you guessed it — the aforementioned giant unexplained but clearly important pile of steel chairs that were purposely accumulated in one spot for way too much time for the pay-off gained.
Another spot coming later on, perhaps?
That one I’m not 100% sure on, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a chair-or-25 once again became part of the story of this contest before the dude in the zebra-colored shirt high-5’s the ring mat with his palm tres times and a dude with a hammer starts smacking it into a ring bell.
Translation? Rose pulled out a bunch of chairs and it backfired on her before she could do anything with them.
It took me less time to write all that out than it did for Rose to execute the two-part setup that the announcers had to help kill-time during.
Both were equally as important.
After the big spot, J.R. leads us into a mid-match commercial break. When we return, the action is back inside the ring and to borrow a line from the legendary Oklahoma native represented in the three-man AEW commentary team (which currently features an additional fourth in the form of Britt Baker), business has clearly picked up in this title match.
Some back-and-forth action leads to another big spot where Riho gets Rose’s big ass seated on the top turnbuckle before going up after her and successfully executing an insane Northern Lights Superplex.
Riho covers Rose.
1, 2 … NO!
Seconds later, however, it was 1, 2 … THREE, for Riho, when she quickly reversed a Rose spot and managed to keep her massive shoulders down for the three count.
We have our first-ever AEW Women’s World Champion Riho celebrating with the title belt in the ring now as the announcers put over the moment and Britt Baker licks her chops in anticipation of getting in the AEW Women’s World Championship mix.
Winner and the INAUGURAL AEW Women’s World Champion: Riho
After The Match: Nyla Rose Attacks Michael Nakazawa & Riho, Kenny Omega Makes Save
Now, Riho gets emotional ahead of Michael Nakazawa interviewing her in the ring after the match in Japanese.
Before he can do so, however, Riho has a real reason to cry now as the enormous Nyla Rose begins a prolonged post-match beatdown of the inaugural AEW Women’s World Champion after taking out Nakazawa before he could ask a single question.
As Rose continues to deliver more unnecessary post-match punishment to the champion, for some reason, it is AEW EVP and active wrestler Kenny Omega that is chosen as the guy who makes the save.
MAIN EVENT
The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs. Chris Jericho & LAX (Santana & Ortiz)
From there, we go straight into the entrance of The Elite, which includes Omega (maybe that explains him making the save?) and The Young Bucks — Nick and Matt Jackson. Their six-man tag-team main event is up next.
On that note, we head to another commercial break before The Elite’s opponents make their entrance. The first-ever AEW Dynamite main event is up NEXT!
And we’re back from commercial break now as we see Santana and Ortiz make their way to the ring as the announcers remind us how they debuted with AEW at the conclusion of the Ladder Match for the AAA Tag-Team Titles between The Lucha Bros and The Young Bucks at the AEW ALL OUT pay-per-view.
Out next is their partner for this six-man tag bout, the reigning, defending, undisputed All Elite Wrestling World’s Heavyweight Champion … Chris Jericho.
The announcers do their best final pre-match sell to explain the significance of and the story behind this historic first-ever AEW Dynamite main event match.
All six men are in the ring now and here we go. The bell sounds and this one is officially underway. Omega and one of the LAX members kick things off for their respective teams.
Before much can happen, however, Jericho requests to be tagged in. The LAX member obliges and in comes the AEW World Champion as the announcers explain the history of the Alpha-Omega rivalry between these two proud Canadian wrestling stars.
As the action starts to get going, Omega is left selling in the ring early on. As he makes his way back to his feet, we see Jon Moxley has made his way through the crowd to ringside. He hops into the squared circle as Omega emerges on his feet, standing directly behind The Elite member and AEW EVP.
Moxley now begins his assault on Omega after they were unable to settle their score stemming from Moxley’s debut in AEW at Double Or Nothing where he attacked Omega after his loss to Jericho.
Their fight spills into the crowd and throughout the arena now. The two are now in the backstage V.I.P. area as Omega and Moxley start using their surroundings as weapons. Omega grabbed a broom or something at one point. Moxley slams Omega into some couches and face-first into a door.
Now an insane spot happens as Moxley suplexes Omega through a glass living room-style coffee table. The glass shatters as they crash through the table and the fans inside the Capital One Arena absolutely erupt with “Holy Sh*t! Holy Sh*t!” chants.
The announcers lead us to a mid-match commercial break.
When we return the action is still in progress as this one nears its’ conclusion. To what SHOULD’VE been to the surprise of absolutely NO ONE … the main event of the debut episode of AEW Dynamite promoted by a Rhodes family member is scripted to have a “Dusty finish!” as everyone starts making run-ins following an out-of-nowhere victory by the heel trio.
Winners: Chris Jericho, Santana & Ortiz
After The Match: Jake Hager Arrives On The Scene!
As one after another man hits the ring from the backstage area, including Cody Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes and others, out of nowhere, former WWE Superstar and current Bellator MMA contender Jake Hager (f.k.a. Jack Swagger) hits the ring.
The crowd goes nuts and on commentary, Jim Ross actually drops what seemed to be a pre-approved “S-bomb,” as he loudly and audibly included the word “SH*T!” in his passion-filled call of the action that just transpired.
Hager brutalizes any and every baby face in sight, including a vicious assault on Dustin Rhodes, drawing the sympathy heat from the fans, which obviously was focused on Hager for leading the attack. It should be mentioned, however, that AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, who already softened up Cody earlier in the evening, seemed to orchestrate the madness, as Hager appeared to be playing out his violent wishes ahead of his title defense against Cody at AEW Full Gear.
The first-ever AEW Dynamite show goes off the air as we see one final shot of the chaos that just ensued in the six-man main event.
Thanks for joining us~!
