Eric Bischoff gave his thoughts on various topics while covering WCW Bash at the Beach 1995 on the latest episode of his 83 Weeks Podcast.
During it, Bischoff talked about his take on whether a heel or babyface should be a world champion:
“I get far more excited about their creative potential when the heel has the championship. Because now you’ve got aspiration, that’s a human emotion. You want the audience to aspire to see that. They wanna see that he gets beat. They, I absolutely believe in, we’ll call it the Ric Flair philosophy, that heels should have the belts. And maybe you’re right. I mean, you characterize it correctly. Hogan’s here. We’re invested in Hogan. As we cover to the top of the show, we’re getting big dividends on that investment immediately. Am I going to bet on the horse that’s won a race, or will I bet on the horse that’s constantly been in second, uh, or come in second or third? So I bet on the horse that, I bet on history, um, it was a bad bet. We wasted a year or more on Flair’s philosophy of having heels have the belts and having the baby faces change. Chase it, making it aspirational and hoping that this will be the week we finally see it. I mean, that’s, you know, the Bloodline thing, right? So it’s been driving that for a year or a half. Uh, so yeah, I’m in that camp, but I did, you know, I bet on the, I bet on the horse that had the best record at the time.”
