AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door was supposed to feature a match between Adam Cole and Tom Lawlor, but the bout was nixed hours before the show due to Cole having an illness.
While there were talks of keeping Lawlor on the show, the decision was made to have Lawlor work the dark match where Lawlor went over Serpentico.
While appearing on Wrestling Observer Live, Lawlor said he hopes to make the match happen in the future.
“I hope Adam Cole recovers from whatever affliction he’s suffering from. I hope it’s not the flu. I hope it’s something less like that… I hope he recovers, I hope we can get that match done in the future but I’ve got a lot of things on my plate coming up and quite frankly, I don’t know when it’s gonna go down so…”
