Keith Lee has reportedly not walked out on AEW, but there was a recent misunderstanding.
There have been rumors on Lee supposedly walking out of the company last week, but a new report from Fightful Select notes that the rumor is not true. However, it was noted that there was a miscommunication between the two sides at last week’s TV tapings.
Lee was at last week’s Dynamite and Rampage tapings in Nashville, and at one point he was told he was not being used for Dynamite. He then left the arena, which often happens when talents are told they are not needed for a show. Lee was booked for the Rampage tapings at some point, but this was not relayed to him before he left. The card for Rampage was then adjusted.
It was noted that there’s no sign of any heat between AEW and Lee over the situation, and those close to it say everything was blown out of proportion online. Sources also did not seem to pass any blame over what happened.
Lee is currently backstage for tonight’s Fyter Fest tapings for Dynamite and Collision in Duluth, GA.
Lee split with former tag team partner Swerve Strickland in November of last year and while they did feud, the singles match never happened. It was reported in early July that AEW still had plans for a Lee vs. Swerve match, but it remains to be seen if that will take place as both have seemingly moved on in the storylines.
Lee’s last match was on the August 4 Rampage episode as he and The Hardys defeated The Butcher, The Blade and Kip Sabian. Before that, Lee teamed with Dustin Rhodes to defeat Angelo Parker and Matt Menard on the July 14 Rampage. Lee’s last AEW singles match was a loss to Chris Jericho on the April 12 Dynamite, and that is his only AEW singles match of 2023 as of this writing, going back to the win over Serpentico on the October 30, 2022 Rampage.
